Seeing Red

Jordan has been begging to get colored streaks in her hair forever. Ok what can I say I'm a pushover and gave in. Tonight we put red streaks in her hair, she loves it- I am undecided. Hopefully it comes out before school starts :)

Cowboy Smigz

I know that it has been a while since I've posted anything :). Erick has been pretty busy this month with scout camp and the trek. Our church takes the youth (14 and older) on a re-creation of the trek that the pioneers made to the Salt Lake Valley. Erick wasn't really too hip on the idea, considering that he had been to scout camp the week before, but I knew it would all work out. Part of the trek is dressing the part, no logo t-shirts and they were suppose to wear a hat, and not the baseball kind. So we made a trip to Burns Saddlery. Luckily they had some hats for a pretty good price and I found a western type shirt that was pretty cute. Strangely enough Erick really likes the hat. He put it on with his AC/DC t-shirt, jeans and flip flops (sorry no picture) and wore it around for quite a while. Jordan and Chan nicknamed him "Cowboy Smigz". Anyhow, Erick went on the trek and really had an enjoyable experience. He was put in a "family" with our dentist Scott Wilkins and his wife Cynthia. They walked a total of 18 miles in 2 1/2 days and slept under the stars. He was tired when he got home, but had a greater appreciation of those pioneers that settled this valley.

Blogger Failure

As any good blogger knows, you can't leave home without your camera. Well everyone except this blogger. We have had a few fun weekends, but did I remember the camera? NO!!!! So I guess a good description is in order. Two weekends ago we got to help with the BBQ at the balloon festival. It was fun to see the hot air balloons in Salina. Erick did get a few pictures on his phone, because I realized that I didn't have my camera. Then last Friday, we participated in the Relay for Life. It was a lot of fun and means so much to us. We got involved probably 4 or 5 years ago when one of Richard's co-workers wife, was diagnosed with cancer. She was such a great inspiration to us and we continue to participate to honor her, as well as one of the Firemen on the Salina Fire Dept. and one of my co-workers. Jordan climbed a really tall rock wall, and once again, no camera. Then Saturday, we went with the Young Men & Young Women boating. It was a lot of fun. Erick knee boarded for the first time. He went for quite a ways too, and of course the camera was at home. So as you can tell I am very disappointed that I missed some really great photo opportunities :o(

Girls Camp 2008

For the last 5 years I have had the opportunity to attend Girls Camp. Now sleeping on a cold mountain in a tent is not really my idea of a great time and unfortunately 4 out of 5 years I have come back sunburnt (yes, I got burnt this year). But I would not miss this for anything. It is such a great experience. You really get to know the girls a lot better and spending time with the other leaders is so much fun. This year was a little interesting, we had a few people get pulled over coming to camp and we had to have the ambulance take one of the girls down because of dehydration, but we all survived. No one got tickets and our girl is just fine. I am glad for the opportunity and am extremely thankful that it is over too :)

Rowdy

Rowdy, our chocolate lab is the funnest puppy. He is so laid back, he will chase Sadie around for a little ways, then plop down and wait for her to come back. If she does something that he doesn't like he will "tell her off" by barking this rar - rar-rar -rar at her. He is always picking something up and hauling it around the yard. Up until now, I haven't been able to get a really good picture of him because he always turns out dark. This one turned out pretty good and you can see what a cutie he is. Also, check out those paws, we call him our little bear cub because he has such big feet. We've come to accept the fact that he is going to be a pretty big boy when he's all grown up.

Me and My Big Ideas

I have a vision of a wonderfully composed picture with my two children smiling happily and my two dogs smiling happily... HOLD ON, WAKE UP, It's only a dream. First of all although I swear I've seen Sadie smile, I don't think that dogs really do smile that much. Secondly, I have a teenage boy and a pre-teen daughter. Erick hates pictures and Jordan thinks she is a diva always needing to strike a pose. So obviously this picture is definately in my dreams, but it never hurts to try. Even though you can see the garbage can , cars and the sprinklers in the background, I do have my smiling children and it really does look like Sadie is smiling :) I am also posting a couple of the other pictures that show what my big ideas usually turn out like.
